Alex Swedlow on Monday said he will step down as president of the California Workers’ Compensation Institute effective August 2025.
Mr. Swedlow has been with the Oakland, California-based organization for 37 years, beginning as a volunteer on CWCI’s Research Committee in 1988 before becoming a consultant to the organization, working on data collection and research, including on medical and indemnity benefit development, 24-hour coverage and medical treatment utilization and cost drivers.
In 1998, he served as the systems architect and project manager for the Industry Claims Information System Project, which provided the foundation for CWCI’s Industry Research Information System.
He later was named the CWCI’s senior vice-president of research, and succeeded J. Michael Nolan as president of the organization in 2013.
The CWCI board has formed a search committee to select his successor.
