A Wisconsin residential construction contractor who was previously cited after a worker died on the job in 2022 is again facing workplace safety violations after inspectors found new occurrences of employees working without fall protection.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Thursday it cited Sun Prairie, Wisconsin-based GL Construction of Madison LLC for one “willful,” two “repeat” and five “serious” violations and proposed $144,505 in penalties after inspectors observed employees doing framing work up to 12 feet off the ground without required protective equipment at a Verona work site in February.
Fall hazards are the construction industry’s most deadly hazard, according to OSHA.
The agency said it had also cited the company four months prior to the investigation related to a separate fall hazard incident at a Sun Prairie worksite.
OSHA said that to date, GL Construction has failed to pay outstanding federal penalties, has not provided any abatement information, and hasn’t complied with the terms of a prior settlement agreement.
GL Construction has 15 business days to contest the latest citation and proposed penalties.
