Trump nominates David Keeling to head OSHA

President Donald Trump has nominated David Keeling to be head of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, according to a White House communication dated Feb. 12.

Mr. Keeling, chosen for Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA, had lead safety roles at both United Parcel Service Inc. and Amazon Inc., where he most recently served as director of road and transportation safety before moving on to independent safety consulting in 2023, according to multiple media outlets.

The Coalition for Workplace Safety, an association of employer organizations including the Associated Builders and Contractors and National Association of Manufacturers, in a web post dated Feb. 14 endorsed Mr. Keeling, stating, “He has been on the ground and on the frontlines of workplace safety for the entirety of his career and has a keen understanding of what works to get companies focused on protecting their employees from workplace hazards.”

The Teamsters Union also endorsed Mr. Keeling, noting on the X platform that Mr. “Keeling worked as a part-time package handler at United Parcel Service before spending nearly 20 years with UPS. OSHA and the DOL …  will continue to benefit from leaders who started in the trades and understand the risks facing working Americans today and necessary reforms and opportunities to protect them.”
