Remote work saw drop in comp claims among office workers: NCCI

The National Council on Compensation Insurance on Friday released findings from a study that saw a 40% decline in workers compensation claims frequency among most office workers who worked remotely from 2019 to 2022.

The data, specifically for the jobs categorized as “Combined Office workers in Special Classes,” representing “almost all” remote workers, was “far larger than the overall frequency decline during the same period” for all other classes. NCCI reported.

NCCI also said the “impact of remote work on overall workers compensation frequency is small because such workers represent a small share of overall premium.”

Currently, about 20-30% of U.S. workers work remotely, according to the ratings agency.
