Joseph J. Plumeri, who headed insurance brokerage Willis in the 2000s, has joined Insurance Advisory Partners LLC as chairman and an investor.
New York-based IAP, an insurance investment banking company, was formed in 2021 by Tony Ursano, also a former Willis executive. According to its website, IAP has participated in transactions involving CRC Group, The Baldwin Group Inc., Hamilton Insurance Group Ltd. and others.
Mr. Plumeri joined the then-Willis Group Ltd. from Citigroup Inc. as CEO in 2000. During his more than 12-year tenure, he led Willis back into public ownership, guided it through the challenging period when former New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer investigated the insurance brokerage industry and negotiated the acquisition of Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Co. in 2008.
After stepping down in 2013, he joined investment firm Kohlberg Kravis & Co. LP the same year.
The brokerage became Willis Towers Watson PLC through a merger in 2016.
