NY bill would provide comp cover for 9/11 recovery workers

A bill introduced in the New York State Legislature on Tuesday would provide workers compensation coverage for any illness or death incurred as a result of an individual’s participation in the 9/11 World Trade Center rescue, recovery and cleanup operations.

Assembly Bill 9922 would amend the rules on presumptive evidence for those who participated in the 9/11 operations. It would also provide that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention World Trade Center Health Program Certification be deemed presumptive medical evidence of a causally related diagnosis under workers compensation law.

The bill was introduced in and referred to the Committee on Governmental Employees where it is pending.
