Flooding, storms could push insured losses into tens of millions of dollars: Aon

Widespread flash flooding and severe weather damage across parts of the U.S. this week may drive total insured losses into the tens of millions of dollars and possibly higher pending future damage assessments, according to the Weekly Cat Report: Review of Global Catastrophe Activity from Aon PLC Friday.

The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions were among the worst affected areas while other areas in the U.S. were hit by strong storms and floods, including Kansas City, Chicago, central Texas, and North Carolina.

Elsewhere, Central and Eastern Europe saw large hail, heavy rainfall and strong winds between July 9 and 14 due to the low-pressure system Gabriel, the report said.

At the same time, parts of northeastern Spain and southwestern France experienced severe storms that generated torrential rainfall, hailstones of up to 2.4-2.8 inches in diameter, and strong wind gusts of over 75 mph.

Total economic losses may reach into the tens of millions of EUR, resulting mainly from damaged infrastructure and agriculture, the Aon report said.
