Calgary hailstorm loss estimate rises to $164 million

A hailstorm that hit Calgary, Alberta, on July 13 caused insured damages of $164 million, the Insurance Bureau of Canada said Friday.

An estimate released last month pegged the damage at $92 million.

Damage to vehicles represented half of claims related to the storm, IBC said in a statement.

Alberta has experienced at least one major hailstorm a year for the past two decades, including last year’s record $3.2 billion storm, the statement said.
