Alliant expands transportation practice

Updated Oct. 18 to reflect a change in the number of acquisitions.

Alliant Insurance Services announced Wednesday it acquired a Texas agency and hired former Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. and Hub International executives in Texas who have expertise in cross-border transportation risks.

Terms were not disclosed for the acquisition of McAfee Insurance Agency in Merced.

(In the announcement Oct. 15, Alliant said it had also bought Texas Insurance Agency in Laredo, but it later updated the statement. In an email late Friday, Sandra Tawil, the agency’s owner, said she rescinded the contract with Alliant on Oct. 16 because the brokerage was “not the right fit for my agency.”)

Nader Dabboussi, based in Dallas, was named senior vice president in the broker’s transportation practice. Mr. Dabboussi previously was an area vice president at Gallagher.

Jordan Lewis, based in McAllen, Texas, was named vice president in the transportation practice. Mr. Lewis previously was an assistant vice president at Hub.

“The growth solidifies our leadership position in providing strategic risk management insight to the transportation industry while leveraging technology platforms to ease the complexities of international brokering,” Michael Cusack, executive vice president of Alliant Specialty, said in a statement.

Alliant said in June that it had launched a nationwide specialty transportation practice.
