Sompo to reorganize into two global segments

Japan’s Sompo Holdings Inc. said Friday it would reorganize into two global segments: Sompo Property and Casualty insurance and reinsurance and Sompo Wellbeing, effective April 1.
Sompo P&C will integrate Sompo International Holdings Ltd.’s insurance and reinsurance business along with its Japanese commercial and consumer property/casualty operations, the financial services company said in a statement.
Sompo Wellbeing will include the company’s life insurance business, Sompo Himawari Life Insurance, and Sompo Care, its nursing services business in Japan, the statement said.
The property/casualty operations will be led by James Shea, currently chairman and CEO of Sompo’s global insurance and reinsurance business outside of Japan, who will become CEO, Sompo P&C, continuing to report to Sompo Group CEO Mikio Okumura.
Mr. Shea will also continue in his current role running the overseas insurance and reinsurance business.
Koji Ishikawa, CEO of Sompo Japan, continues in his role, and will now report to Mr. Shea.
Kenneth Reilly will expand his current responsibilities as CEO, insurance, Asia Pacific, to also include deputy CEO of Sompo Japan, commercial insurance
Nicolas Burnet will become group deputy chief financial officer of Sompo Holdings and CFO of Sompo P&C. He will report to Mr. Shea and Masahiro Hamada, Group CFO.
