United Risk launches reinsurance MGA, announces executive leaders

United Risk, an affiliate of Applied Underwriters Inc., said Monday it has launched a managing general agent focused on reinsurance.

Jay Cahill, previously chief financial officer of New York-based United Risk, was named CEO of the MGA.

The unit will provide property/casualty, cyber liability and credit reinsurance coverage, Applied Underwriters said in a statement. It will offer coverage beginning with June renewals and establish operational offices in New York,  London and Bermuda for Jan. 1, 2026, placements, the statement said.

Mr. Cahill joined United Risk last year from specialty insurer and reinsurer Awbury Group. He previously spent 11 years at RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd.

Alex Amezquita succeeds Mr. Cahill as CFO of United Risk, the statement said. Most recently, he was CFO of dietary supplement company Herbalife Nutrition Ltd.
