Ryan Specialty names next CEO of international unit

Ryan Specialty LLC on Monday named James Montgomery CEO of Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers International, succeeding Mark Birrell, who was named executive chairman.

Both roles are effective Jan. 1, 2025.

Mr. Montgomery is currently a managing director of Ryan Transactional Risk. He joined Ryan Specialty in 2016.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Birrell was chairman and CEO of Castel Underwriting Agencies Ltd., which Ryan Specialty acquired at the end of last year.

Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Birrell are based in RSUM International’s London headquarters.
