Gallagher launches specialty brokerage operation in Bermuda

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. said Thursday it has launched a specialty brokerage operation in Bermuda led by Jasmine DeSilva as managing director.

The specialty operation will provide insurance and risk management expertise across financial lines, construction, energy, marine, and property/casualty lines. It will initially have four local employees.

Ms. DeSilva previously was commercial director for Artex Capital Solutions, part of Artex Risk Solutions Inc., Gallagher’s Hamilton, Bermuda-based captive and alternative risk management business.

She will report to Malcolm Payton, CEO, property and casualty insurance solutions, and head of global facultative at Gallagher.

Before joining Artex in 2001 Ms. DeSilva was business development manager for risk and insurance solutions at the Bermuda Business Development Agency.

In addition to Artex, Gallagher has Bermuda-based treaty reinsurance operations.

Some $268 billion in premium is placed from companies operating from Bermuda, Gallagher said.
