CNA expects Q3 pretax net cat losses of $143 million

CNA Financial Corp. said Monday that it expects to report pretax net catastrophe losses of $143 million for the third quarter, including $55 million from Hurricane Helene.

Roughly 75% of the losses resulted from four large events, the insurer said.

Pretax net catastrophe losses from Hurricane Milton are expected to be between $25 million and $55 million and will likely be reflected in fourth-quarter results, CNA said.

The combined pretax net catastrophe losses comprise $127 million in the domestic commercial segment and $16 million in the international segment.

CNA said its combined ratio for the period is in line with the third-quarter average over the last five years.
