FM Global changes brand name

Commercial property insurer FM Global changed its brand name to FM on Wednesday.

As part of the rebrand, its middle-market unit, Affiliated FM Insurance Co., is now called FM Affiliated, FM said in a statement.

The Johnston, Rhode Island-based company, whose legal name is Factory Mutual Insurance Co., traces its roots to 1835 when a group of manufacturers created a mutual insurer focused on property loss prevention.

It began trading as FM Global shortly after its most recent iteration, created in 1998 through the merger of three highly protected risk insurers: Allendale Mutual Insurance Co., Arkwright Mutual Insurance Co. and Protection Mutual Insurance Co.
