More hurricanes forecast this year: Colorado State

More hurricanes than previously anticipated are expected this year, according to the latest forecast issued Thursday.

The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University in Fort Collins is forecasting 18 named storms, including the four that have already formed, nine hurricanes and four major hurricanes.

“Uncertainty with this outlook is larger than normal,” however, said Philip J. Klotzbach, a senior research scientist in CSU’s Department of Atmospheric Science, in a statement. 

The latest prediction compares with the forecast issued on June 1 of 15 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes this season.
