AIG names Schaper global underwriting chief

American International Group Inc. Thursday named Christopher Schaper global chief underwriting officer.
Mr. Schaper, who is currently CEO of AIG Re, will take up the position on the closing of the sale of AIG unit Validus Reinsurance Ltd. to RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd., an AIG statement said. Mr. Schaper is also CEO of Validus Re and AlphaCat.
He joined AIG in 2019 from Marsh LLC, where he was CEO of Victor Insurance Holdings, the brokerage’s managing general underwriter business. Prior to joining Marsh in 2016, he was president of Montpelier Reinsurance Ltd.
Kean Driscoll, previously chief underwriting officer of AIG’s general insurance business, left the insurer in March.
