BMS buys pair of Canadian brokers

BMS Group Ltd. said Tuesday it has acquired Canadian brokers Smith & Reid Insurance Brokers Ltd. and O’Neil Insurance Brokers Ltd.

Smith & Reid, with two offices in Ottawa, Ontario, is led by President Jeff Smith and Vice-president Dan Reid and shows 20 employees on its website. The broker specializes in coverages for industries including construction, real estate, oil and gasoline distribution, and auto dealerships.

Mr. Smith and Mr. Reid will work with Brian Gomes, president and CEO of BMS Group, Canada, to integrate the businesses, a BMS statement said.

Renfrew, Ontario-based O’Neill, which shows four staff on its website, provides coverages for sectors including hospitality, real estate, construction and manufacturing.

The deal allows BMS to expand into specialty retail in Canada, the statement said.
