Arch Capital names next managing director of Bermuda unit

Arch Capital Group Ltd. Tuesday said Matthew Smith will succeed Tony Hay as managing director of Arch Insurance (Bermuda) on Jan. 1, 2024, following Mr. Hay’s retirement.

Mr. Smith will be responsible for managing all aspects of Arch Insurance (Bermuda)’s direct insurance operations, a company statement said.

He will be based on the Island and report to Mike Lay, chief underwriting officer for long-tail lines at Arch Insurance International.

Mr. Smith joined Arch in Bermuda in 2002 and has been senior vice president and underwriting manager for executive assurance since 2011.
