Gallagher buys Michigan-based companies from Ameritrust

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. said Wednesday it has acquired Meadowbrook Insurance Agency, the Southfield, Michigan-based retail agency unit of Ameritrust Insurance Group Inc., and affiliated entities.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Meadowbrook, which has about 95 employees, offers a range of property/casualty coverages and group benefits to clients in Michigan and Florida.

As part of the deal, Gallagher will acquire Meadowbrook affiliated companies The Protection Center, based in Jackson, Michigan, and Kleinschmidt Agency Inc., based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Meadowbrook staff will operate under the direction of Sean Gallagher, head of Gallagher’s Great Lakes region retail property/casualty brokerage operations, and Tom Lannen, head of Gallagher’s Midwest region employee benefits consulting operations.

“Meadowbrook Insurance Agency’s strong relationships across Michigan will enhance our strategic capabilities in the region and deepen our market expertise in public entity, manufacturing and real estate,” J. Patrick Gallagher, chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement.
