Shane Fitzsimons, the former chief financial officer of American International Group Inc., died Friday. He was 55.
Mr. Fitzsimons, who was named CFO in 2021, stepped down from the role in June after taking a medical leave of absence. Sabra Purtill was named as his replacement.
Mr. Fitzsimons joined AIG from Indian conglomerate Tata Group in 2019 as global head of shared services. Prior to that, he spent more than 20 years at General Electric Co.
In a tribute posted on LinkedIn, Peter Zaffino, CEO of AIG, praised Mr. Fitzsimons’ leadership and mentorship skills and noted he was a key driver behind the initial public offering of Corebridge Financial, AIG’s life and retirement business, last year “in a very challenging market.”
