OSHA issues $1.2M in COVID-19-related citations

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Friday announced that it has as of Oct. 8 cited 85 establishments for violations relating to COVID-19 safety measures, resulting in proposed penalties totaling $1.2 million. 

OSHA said in a statement that inspections uncovered such violations as failing to implement a written respiratory protection program; failing to provide a medical evaluation, respirator fit test, or training on the proper use of a respirator and personal protective equipment; failing to record or report injuries, illnesses or fatalities as required by recordkeeping rules; or failing to comply with the general duty clause that requires employers to provide safe work sites.

In the statement, OSHA identified 23 organizations that were cited, most of which are health care organizations with fines up to $22,555.
