OSHA issues additional COVID-19 fines

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration earlier this month issued an additional nearly $300,000 in fines for COVID-19 safety violations, bringing the total number of fines the agency has issued since the start of the pandemic to $3.15 million, OSHA announced Friday.

Between Nov. 6 and Nov. 12, OSHA fined 29 employers after inspections in Alabama, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey and New York uncovered safety violations.

Violations included a lack of a written respiratory program, lack of proper fit tests, failure to report or record an injury, illness or fatality, and violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act’s general duty clause.

Nearly all businesses cited were in the health care field.
