Pa. governor seeks $145M comp fund transfer to help businesses

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has initiated the transfer of $145 million from the state’s workers compensation security fund to distribute to businesses adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the governor’s office announced in a statement Wednesday.

The transfer of the workers comp funds from the Pennsylvania Insurance Department requires legislative authorization. The legislature also has the authority to establish grant agreements to distribute the funds to businesses.

In the statement, Gov. Wolf asked the legislature to follow his lead and allocate the funds as quickly as possible to restaurants, bars, gyms, entertainment venues and other industries severely impacted by the pandemic.

The state has distributed more than $525 million in relief to businesses this year.
