N.Y. bill would make diesel exposure cancer compensable

Lawmakers in New York are considering legislation that would allow widows and dependents of workers who died as a result of cancer caused by exposure to diesel exhaust to file for death benefits.

S.B. 661, prefiled for Wednesday, would go into effect immediately if passed.

Lawmakers are also considering A.B. 732, which clarifies that “an injured worker who has not refused an offer of reemployment from his or her employer has not voluntarily withdrawn from the labor market.”

If passed, that measure would go into effect immediately.
