Matthew Washington has been appointed CEO of Probitas 1492, a specialist Lloyd’s syndicate focused on property, casualty and specialty re/insurance, .
Washington assumes the new role alongside his current position as Managing Director of Aviva’s Global Corporate & Specialty (GCS) business.
“With deep experience in the Lloyd’s market and a strong track record of leadership, Matt will help shape the next chapter for us as an Aviva company. His focus remains on underwriting discipline, broker partnership and delivering for clients,” Probitas 1492 said.
Washington is a seasoned executive with over three years at Aviva, following senior roles at Neon, Starr Companies, and Ascot.
Washington commented on his new role, “I am both honoured and humbled to announce that today represents the first day in my new role as CEO of Aviva’s Lloyd’s business, Probitas.
“Having spent much of my career in the Lloyd’s market, this is a moment that feels both familiar and full of fresh opportunity. Probitas has built a strong reputation for performance, agility and broker partnership, and I’m excited to help shape the next phase of its journey as part of Aviva.
“I am equally thrilled to work alongside the fantastic talent within the Probitas business, and indeed build on a combined sense of purpose as we expand our dual-stamp proposition across syndicate and company balance sheets.”
He continued, “Our marketplace is one that is built on the strength of its people and their relationships. To that end, my commitment to our teams is that we will continue to foster an environment where innovation and excellence flourish; one where we seek to attract and retain the best leaders, market-makers and subject matter experts; and above all, one where everyone feels part of the cause and every contribution matters.
“I would like to thank both Dame Amanda Blanc and our GI CEO, Jason Storah, for the faith that they have put in me and the leadership teams across both the GCS business and Probitas.
“Finally, my best wishes to Ash Bathia and Nick Bacon, as they step back from their executive roles at Probitas. I know they are both incredibly proud of what they have built over the last ten years, and they leave the business well-positioned for its next chapter.”
