Talanx’s retail division sells its Argentinian and Uruguayan subsidiaries to BARBUSS

The Retail International division of European insurer Talanx Group has sold its Argentinian and Uruguayan entities to BARBUSS, a global holding company providing a range of insurance, claims management and financing solutions.
Both entities are now owned by BARBUSS S.A., except for a remaining 10% portion of HDI Seguros Uruguay, which is still owned by Talanx and is subject to regulatory proceedings.
The insurer explained that the sale is pivotal in implementing the Retail International division’s strategy to build a strong presence and to generate profitable growth in Latin America.
, Talanx divested from its small-scale operation in Ecuador.
HDI Seguros Argentina and HDI Seguros Uruguay have been part of HDI International AG since 2011.
In 2024, the Argentinian operation generated a gross premium volume of ARS 87,708 million (€86 million) with 148 employees, while the Uruguayan entity recorded a gross premium volume of UYU 1,628 million (€36 million) and employed 46 people.
The Retail International Division of Talanx Group concentrates on the activities of companies serving retail and commercial customers in the areas of non-life and life insurance in markets outside Germany.
The division is led by HDI International AG and its European operations are in Poland, Türkiye and Italy, and Latin America operations are across Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Colombia.
As of 2024, the division has approximately 14,000 employees, with an insurance revenue of €9.3 billion and a contribution to group net income of €449 million.
