Canopius appoints Brodie English and Rob Barnum to APAC leadership roles

Canopius, a global specialty insurer and reinsurer, has announced the appointments of Brodie English as Head of Casualty, Australia and New Zealand, and Rob Barnum as Head of Financial Lines, APAC, both effective 1st June, 2025.

In his new role, English will lead the development of the Casualty portfolio across the region, with a focus on enhancing client delivery, aligning underwriting practices with evolving market standards, and supporting strategic growth.

He brings more than 15 years of experience in casualty underwriting, complex risk assessment, and broker relationship management.

Since joining Canopius in 2022 as Casualty Underwriter, English has led the underwriting of complex accounts, mentored junior underwriters, and spearheaded the implementation of a new underwriting system.

Prior to that, he spent nearly four years at AXA XL, most recently as Senior Casualty Underwriter. Earlier in his career, he held senior underwriting roles at Tokio Marine and QBE Insurance.

In Barnum’s new role leading the Financial Lines division across the APAC region, he will focus on driving growth, strengthening Canopius’s market presence, and delivering long-term value to clients.

He brings more than a decade of experience in financial lines underwriting and regional portfolio management.

Barnum joined Canopius in January 2024 as Underwriter APAC – Professional Lines, where he has played a key role in expanding the Professional Lines portfolio across the region.

Previously, he spent over six years at AXIS Capital, most recently as Head of Professional Lines & Cyber APAC, and held various senior roles at XL Catlin over five years.

Soon Keen (SK) Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Canopius APAC and Middle East & North Africa, said, “Brodie and Rob’s appointments mark an important step in the evolution of our APAC business. They bring an exceptional blend of technical expertise, market insight, and leadership experience, and are ideally placed to lead our Casualty and Financial Lines portfolios. With the new structure now in place, I’m confident they will help us deliver even greater value to clients and further strengthen our relationships with partners across the region.”
