HIVE expands into space insurance with Kenneally appointment

Independent specialty managing general agent (MGA) HIVE Underwriters has expanded into space insurance with the appointment of leading underwriter, Jack Kenneally, as Class Underwriter.

This move complements HIVE’s existing aviation offering, signalling a significant phase in the MGA’s growth strategy.

Kenneally has been part of London market’s most respected space insurance portfolios, he will join HIVE upon completing his contractual obligation with his current employer, Occam Underwriting (a Brown & Brown company.

In his new role, Kenneally has been tasked with building HIVE’s new space insurance class, leveraging his extensive expertise and industry relationships.

The executive’s outstanding reputation in space underwriting aligns with HIVE’s data-driven, analytical approach to risk selection and pricing, the MGA highlighted.

His consistent track record of underwriting performance, strong market relationships, and technical depth has earned the confidence of top-tier Lloyd’s syndicates.

Kenneally commented: “I am thrilled to be joining HIVE. It’s exciting to be part of a fast-growing MGA and especially one with such an excellent culture. The team they’ve brought together is really strong and importantly it’s underwriting-centric.

“By being nimble and forward-thinking HIVE has been able to develop systems and technology to equip their underwriters with novel tools which the rest of the market struggles to compete with. I am looking forward to building on the success they have already achieved.”

HIVE’s entry into space insurance builds upon its successful track record in aviation. Having started with aviation hull war, HIVE now underwrites an expansive aviation insurance book including airline and general aviation hull and liabilities, airline and general aviation hull war and excess aviation war liabilities (XS AVN52).

Bruce Carman, CEO, HIVE Underwriters, stated: “HIVE’s appeal lies in its dynamic culture, where autonomy, alignment, and entrepreneurial ambition thrive. Jack is a highly respected underwriter in the space market with a proven track record, and I am delighted he has chosen to join us and build HIVE’s space team.

“This expansion is not only a major step for HIVE – but it also reflects the growing appetite in the market for expert-led MGAs that combine technical discipline with entrepreneurial ambition. There’s a real opportunity here for us to continue to attract best-in-class underwriters looking to shape their own success in a supportive, high-performance environment – and I’m excited to see what comes next.”

Henning Haagen, Chief Development Officer, HIVE Underwriters, said: “The space insurance market is evolving, and it needs fresh thinking – underwriters who can combine deep technical understanding with a forward-looking, analytical mindset.

“Jack brings exactly that. His move to HIVE is significant, it reflects the growing appeal of independent, agile platforms that empower underwriters to lead. Opportunities like this aren’t limited to space – we’re seeing them emerge across a range of specialty classes as HIVE continues to build out its business.”
