Jonathan Zhao named EY Global Insurance Leader

Jonathan Zhao has been promoted to Global Insurance Leader at EY, taking over the role from Isabelle Santenac, who had been leading the practice for the past six years.

Zhao, who has been with the company for nearly 25 years, will now oversee a team of 24,000 insurance professionals across EY’s 10 new super regions.

His extensive experience, accumulated over close to three decades, includes advising financial institutions on intricate strategic transactions, mergers and acquisitions, business integration, transformation, risk management, and performance improvements.

Commenting on the transition, Santenac expressed her confidence in her successor: “I wish a lot of success to my successor Jonathan Zhao, who I know very well and who is the best positioned to lead this practice to the next level.”

Zhao also acknowledged Santenac’s contributions, stating: “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Isabelle Santenac for her outstanding leadership of the Global Insurance sector over the past six years, a period marked by tremendous transformation across the industry, from navigating the global pandemic to embracing the power of AI and technological innovation.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with our exceptional global insurance team as we support our clients through today’s complex and dynamic environment. Together, we will shape the future of the insurance industry with confidence for our clients and our people!”

Since joining EY, Zhao has served in a number of roles increasing in responsibility, most recently holding the position of Regional Managing Partner, Asia Pacific Financial Services Organization.

Prior to joining EY, he was a Consultant, Insurance and Actuarial Advisory at KPMG, and before that he worked as an Actuary for Manulife.
