Guy Carpenter appoints Hakes as Global Head of Marine, Energy and Technical Lines

Guy Carpenter, a leading global risk and reinsurance specialist and a business of Marsh McLennan, has appointed Richard Hakes as the new Global Head of Marine, Energy and Technical Lines (METL).
Hakes, who will also join the Global Specialties Leadership Team, is now responsible for leading the global METL team, comprising nearly 100 colleagues.
According to Guy Carpenter, he will drive the continued success of the METL platform, delivering deep analytics and risk transfer solutions for the firm’s METL clients globally. Hakes holds more than 20 years of experience in the industry, having spent 13 of those with Guy Carpenter.
He previously led the firm’s International Marine business, reportedly developing the client offering to be a market-leading marine and energy platform.
Alongside Hakes, the METL Leadership Team will comprise Simon Liley (Deputy Global Head of METL), Brian Stroop (Global Specialties Leader for North America and Head of US – METL), and Nick Jay (Chairman of METL).
