The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) has added Gallagher Re, a global reinsurance broker, to its list of member companies.
Gallagher Re is part of Gallagher, an insurance brokerage, risk management, and consulting group. The reinsurance division employs around 2,400 people across 30 countries.
Gallagher has operated in Bermuda since 1975, when Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. first established a business on the island.
In addition to Gallagher Re, the firm operates through Artex, its alternative risk management subsidiary, and a specialty insurance business launched in 2024.
Following its acquisition of Willis Re in December 2021, Gallagher Re became one of the largest reinsurance brokers globally by revenue, according to AM Best.
The company provides reinsurance services across a range of sectors, including aerospace, marine and energy, construction, property, casualty, cyber, credit and surety, life and health, and agriculture.
Mark Cloutier, Chair of ABIR and Executive Chair of Aspen Insurance Group, commented: “Gallagher Re brings valuable expertise and leadership as a prominent reinsurance broker and risk advisor. Their membership strengthens the collective voice of Bermuda’s reinsurance market, and we are pleased to welcome Gallagher Re to ABIR.”
Lara Mowery, Chief Commercial Officer of Gallagher Re, said: “Bermuda is a key market for global risk solutions, and joining ABIR marks an important step for Gallagher Re as we continue our growth on the island.”
Ben Radford, Head of Bermuda for Gallagher Re, added: “Gallagher Re values the opportunity to engage with industry leaders and support Bermuda’s continued leadership in the global re/insurance sector.”
As a new member, Gallagher Re will also participate in ABIR’s Broker Advisory Cabinet, alongside Aon, Marsh McLennan/Guy Carpenter, and Lockton Re. The Cabinet facilitates communication between brokers and Bermuda’s re/insurers to address industry issues and developments.
John Huff, CEO of ABIR, stated: “ABIR member companies are global leaders in managing a broad and evolving range of risks — from natural catastrophe risk to climate, mortgage, geopolitical and cyber risks. We’re pleased to welcome Gallagher Re to our membership, as a valued participant in our broker community, which plays a vital role in supporting growth and innovation in Bermuda’s re/insurance market.”
