Agile marks strong first year of Syndicate 2427

Agile Underwriting Services celebrates a successful one year of Syndicate 2427, launched under Lloyd’s ‘syndicate-in-a-box’ framework, with strong performance and momentum.

Since commencing underwriting in May 2024, Syndicate 2427 has demonstrated strong underwriting performance, expanded its product lines, and significantly increased broker engagement across the globe through new service companies.

Agile is forecasting strong utilisation for the 2024 Year of Account, showcasing both market appetite and disciplined growth across its SME and mid-market focus areas. Syndicate 2427 is managed by Davies-owned Asta.

“We launched Syndicate 2427 with a bold goal — to extend Agile’s capability globally, without losing the agility and focus that got us here,” said Robin Barham, CEO and co-founder of Agile. “A year in, that vision is working. We’re underwriting with purpose, growing responsibly, and building a platform that reflects the future of insurance.”

One of Syndicate 2427’s advantages has been its unique operational structure, leveraging Agile’s existing infrastructure and local knowledge.

With senior class underwriters strategically based in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, the syndicate is able to connect global capacity with critical regional insights, delivering relevant and scalable solutions.

The syndicate’s achievements in its first year include a strategic expansion into property and marine lines, with a well-developing property book built by an experienced team with a clear strategy to avoid natural catastrophe exposure.

Other highlights include a growing pipeline for H2 2025 and FY 2026, and continued emphasis on SME and mid-market segments, where Agile sees stronger returns and broker demand.

Furthermore, the conversion of Agile Australia (its foundation MGA) into a Lloyd’s Syndicate Service Company and the launch of new service companies in the UK and New Zealand (the first of its kind in that country) also highlight the model’s capacity for rapid, strategic expansion.

“We’ve built solid momentum. What started as a relatively modest syndicate-in-a-box now feels like a true engine of growth,” said Mark Hunt, active underwriter of Syndicate 2427. “Our focus remains on underwriting smartly, growing sustainably, and delivering solutions brokers can count on.”

Syndicate 2427 has provided Agile with access to new territories, long-term capital backing, and a broader product scope, all while staying true to the company’s digital foundations and SME focus.

This platform has already enhanced Agile’s binder capability and enabled strategic expansion into underserved markets across the APAC region.

Planning for the 2026 year of account is underway, with Agile committed to maintaining its momentum by continuing to leverage its tech-first approach and people-led underwriting.
