Swiss Re’s Property & Casualty Reinsurance (P&C Re) business unit has launched a Parametric Centre of Excellence, led by Marcel Andriesse, to unify and enhance the firm’s capabilities in parametric solutions across the organisation.
According to the firm, the new Parametric Centre of Excellence will be housed within Global Specialty – Agriculture & Parametric, supported by a dedicated, cross-functional team that will leverage Swiss Re’s combined expertise across the P&C Re business.
Andriesse is a Senior Agriculture Underwriter with nearly 20 years of experience at Swiss Re.
He began his career at the firm as an agriculture reinsurance underwriter for Eastern Europe and has since supported insurance companies and farmers across the region.
In related news, supported by the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) through the UK’s Blue Planet Fund, the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Insurance & Risk Finance Facility (IRFF) recently partnered with Swiss Re and the Indonesian government to develop a long-term parametric insurance solution aimed at protecting and restoring coral reefs.
Meanwhile, in an interview earlier this year, Megan Linkin, Expert Structurer at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, the global reinsurer’s commercial insurance arm, discussed the growing demand for parametric insurance amid an uptick in severe weather events and subsequent losses.
