Bermuda-based re/insurer Everest Group has announced that Jim Williamson, Executive Vice President and Group Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed Acting CEO and joined its Board of Directors with immediate effect, following the departure of Juan C. Andrade, who, after serving as President and CEO since 2020, is set to assume a new role as CEO and President of USAA.
During his career, spanning roles at Everest, The Hartford, Chubb, and ACE, Williamson has held senior positions across all aspects of the P&C industry, including commercial, specialty, and consumer lines of business, both in the US and internationally. After joining Everest in 2020 as Group COO, Williamson assumed the expanded role as Head of the Company’s Reinsurance Division in May 2021 and was promoted to lead both the Reinsurance and Insurance businesses in March 2024.
Chairman of Everest’s Board, Joseph Taranto, commented on the transition, “The Board of Directors has great confidence in Jim and is pleased to have appointed him to take the helm at Everest.
“His appointment is consistent with the Board’s succession planning process, and we believe that his deep experience spanning insurance and reinsurance sectors, functional areas and geography will deliver value for stakeholders and position Everest well for the future.
“Jim will continue to partner with an experienced and talented group of senior colleagues, including CFO Mark Kociancic, to achieve Everest’s long-term strategic goals. In addition, we wish Juan well in his new position.”
Outgoing Andrade, who will join USAA on April 2, has served on the company’s Board of Directors for the past four years and has almost 40 years of leadership experience as a public servant and in the financial services industry.
Before Everest, Andrade was president of Chubb’s international business in over 50 countries, president and chief operating officer at The Hartford and a general manager at Progressive.
Earlier in his career, Andrade worked in national security, international affairs and drug policy within the U.S. Federal Government’s Executive Branch and The Executive Office of the President.
Commenting on his new role, Andrade said, “I’m excited to build upon USAA’s legacy and continue innovating to add value to our members’ experiences and help more military families achieve financial security.
“I admire the association’s dedication to the military community and their families. Witnessing firsthand the outstanding service the team provides to our courageous service men and women, I am honored to lead USAA in its second century of service.”
USAA board chair, Vice Admiral (USN, Ret.) Jim Zortman, added, “USAA is a special association, and the board took great care to find someone with the right expertise, vision and leadership. Juan has a deep respect for our men and women in uniform, having served alongside them to help safeguard our national security.
“We know he will continue his track record of building high-performing teams and enhance USAA’s legacy of service.”
Andrade succeeds Wayne Peacock, who announced his retirement in August 2024 after leading USAA since 2020.
