Ben Wathen promoted to Chief Claims Officer for Gallagher Re

Reinsurance broker Gallagher Re has announced Ben Wathen has been promoted to lead its Global Claims Advocacy team as Chief Claims Officer.

Wathen brings to his new role over two decades of claims expertise, a client-focused approach, and a diverse background spanning underwriting, claims, and broking.

The executive has been part of Gallagher Re since April 2024, when he joined the company as Head of Complex Claims.

Prior to his tenure at Gallagher Re, Wathen spent over four years at Canopius Group, having joined as Senior Claims Adjuster before being appointed Claims Manager – Reinsurance.

He also worked close to seven years at MS Amlin, where served as Senior Claims Adjuster following his role as Claims Adjuster.

Before this, Wathen was a Reinsurance Claims Technician for Amlin and a Broker for Marsh.

Wathen’s promotion is one of Gallagher Re’s most recent people’s moves, following some leadership changes within its Analytics team in Asia Pacific, where the broker appointed Hemant Nagpal as Head of Analytics and Darren Murch as Deputy Head of Analytics.
