Insurers have paid $4.2bn in LA wildfire claims: Denni Ritter, APCIA

As of January 27, 2025, data from the California Department of Insurance reports that insurers have paid out over $4.2 billion, with 31,210 claims filed for the Eaton and Palisades wildfires, according to Denni Ritter, Vice President, State Government Relations at American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA).

This data includes payments from admitted carriers, the California FAIR Plan, and surplus lines insurers.

Ritter stated, “Insurers are committed to helping Californians recover and rebuild from the devastating wildfires in Southern California.”

She added, “From the onset of the wildfires, insurers have been on the frontlines assisting customers with disaster recovery – proactively reaching out to impacted customers, setting up help centers, and deploying Catastrophe Teams to help residents get claims started and secure emergency housing, food, clothing and other resources in their time of need.”

Ritter emphasised that the claims paid so far are just the beginning and that the recovery process will be long. Insurers will continue working alongside residents and businesses to help rebuild Southern California.
