Alok Shukla named CEO of XL Insurance, India Reinsurance branch

XL Insurance, part of global insurer AXA, has appointed Alok Shukla as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of XL Insurance Company SE, India Reinsurance Branch, effective April 1st, 2025.
The appointment follows Joseph Augustine stepping down as CEO of the branch on January 31st, 2025, after 15 years of service to AXA. He will continue to support the transition as Senior Advisor until the end of March.
To ensure a smooth transition, Mayuri Singhal, Head of Finance, Asia, for AXA XL, will concurrently serve as interim CEO from February 1st to March 31st, 2025.
Shukla will be based in Mumbai, and take leadership of AXA’s strategic initiatives, driving growth in the facultative reinsurance business while continuing to deliver value to clients and partners in India.
With over 19 years of experience in the re/insurance industry, Shukla brings a wealth of expertise, having held leadership roles at Munich Re, and Bharti AXA General Insurance.
He also has deep knowledge of the Indian market and a proven track record in underwriting, business growth, and leadership of high-performing teams.
