Flood Re has appointed Tony Ballance to its Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director, where his expertise in sustainability and regulation will reportedly be invaluable as climate change continues to intensify and increase flood risk, ahead of the Scheme’s exit from the market in 2039.
Ballance is currently Chief Strategy & Regulation Officer at Cadent Gas, and also the Chairman of The National Forest Company, and a Trustee at The Soil Association.
He has previously operated as Director of Strategy & Regulation at Severn Trent, where he served on its board for eight years.
Before this, he was an economic consultant with significant international experience following his role as Ofwat’s Chief Economist.
Ballance commented on his new role, “I am thrilled to be joining the Flood Re Board at such an important time. With the global climate crisis intensifying, effective flood risk management has never been more important.
“I am looking forward to using my experience, alongside the leadership team, to aid in the delivery of affordable and available home insurance for those in high flood-risk areas.”
Flood Re has also thanked Judith Eden for her eight and a half years of service on the Board as she steps down as a Non-Executive Director, effective 18 July 2024.
Eden joined Flood Re’s Board upon the establishment of Flood Re in 2016 and is said to have contributed greatly to the success of the Scheme in its early years.
Bridget Rosewell, Chair, Flood Re, said, “We are excited to welcome Tony to our Board. His extensive experience alongside his deep commitment to environmental stewardship makes him an invaluable addition.
“We look forward to the significant contributions he will bring to Flood Re as we work towards creating a flood-resilient future ahead of our exit from the market in 2039.
“I would also like to thank Judith Eden for her significant contribution to the Flood Re Board since its formation in 2016. Judith has been very influential in helping to ensure the delivery of affordable and available home insurance for those in high flood risk areas.”
