NormanMax hires Turgel as CUO, Gabin joins as General Counsel

NormanMax Insurance Holdings, the specialist parametric underwriter and operator of the only dedicated parametric syndicate at Lloyd’s, has bolstered its leadership team with two key appointments, with Daniel Turgel joining the firm as Chief Underwriting Officer, and Matthew Gabin joining as General Counsel.
A highly experienced veteran across the sector, Turgel is a well-known figure across the insurtech community.
He is mostly known across the industry as being the Co-Founder of insurtech Denver, an industry organisation dedicated to growing the local Denver insurance and technology communities.
He began his reinsurance career at Arch Reinsurance, where he held a number of underwriting roles in the facultative and treaty groups across the US and abroad.
Most recently, he served as Vice President at Topsail Re, where he managed a large property & casualty quota share treaty book.
Meanwhile, Gabin, brings a deep degree of expertise towards his new role, joining the firm from his most recent role as Chief Legal Officer and Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Arbol.
Prior to this, he worked at reinsurance giant Swiss Re, where as legal counsel he focused on parametric risk transfer, weather derivatives, as well as ILS structures, working for the weather and commodity business.
Prior to Swiss Re, he spent almost a decade working at Allianz Risk Transfer, as its North American Counsel. He also had a focus on reinsurance convergence and assisted in the development of the ART fronting for ILS business.
