Alera buys Massachusetts broker

Alera Group Inc. said Thursday it had acquired Webber & Grinnell Insurance Agency Inc. of Northampton, Massachusetts.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Webber & Grinnell provides business insurance for contractors, manufacturers, wholesalers and distributor insurance, nonprofits insurance, property managers and more.

Webber & Grinnell’s approximately 47 employees, according to its website, will continue serving clients in their existing roles, the Alera statement said.

Alan Levitz, CEO of Alera Group, said the deal helps expand the broker’s footprint in New England.

Alera Group is the 17th-largest broker of U.S. business, according to the most recent Business Insurance rankings.
