Sharp increase in brokerage M&A in 2021: Advisory firm

Another report on brokerage merger and acquisition activity shows a sharp increase in deals last year.
New York-based M&A and strategic advisory firm Sica Fletcher LLC reported a 40.3% increase in 2021 from 2020 in insurance industry acquisitions Wednesday, to 756, according to its index of 16 brokers.
In the fourth quarter alone, there was a 60% increase, to 292, according to the Sica Fletcher Agency & Broker Buyer Index 2021 Annual Report.
Optis Partners LLC. said in a report issued last month that there were 1,034 mergers and acquisitions among insurance agents and brokers in 2021, up 30% compared with 2020.
In addition, last month financial analysts MarshBerry Inc. reported that in 2021, M&A activity hit a fifth straight record year in the insurance distribution sector, with 798 transactions announced as of Jan. 3, 2022, a 12.2% increase compared with the 2020 announced deal total of 711.
