Flood Re & BIBA collaborate to promote Build Back Better scheme and property flood resilience

Flood Re, a UK government-backed initiative that makes flood insurance more affordable, has partnered with the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA), the trade body for UK insurance brokers.

Together, they aim to increase awareness within the broking community about the Build Back Better (BBB) scheme, highlight the importance of Property Flood Resilience (PFR) both inside and outside the home, and share Flood Re’s future plans.

Flood Re representatives will accompany BIBA’s executive team on a UK tour to connect with broker members.

Introduced in July 2022, the Build Back Better scheme is designed to lessen the financial and physical impact of future floods by integrating resilience measures into flood repairs.

Kelly Ostler-Coyle, Head of Communications and Stakeholder Relations, Flood Re, commented: “We joined BIBA as an insurer partner at the end of last year and are now really looking forward to developing that relationship and talking to brokers face to face in the regions. Our aims is to help ensure wider understanding of the Build Back Better scheme and the role of Property Flood Resilience amongst the broking community which plays a crucial role when it comes to communication with customers.

“We know that education around PFR is critical for the success of the Build Back Better scheme and that it has a major role to play in helping improve resilience to future flooding. The Regional Tour will also enable us to garner feedback from the broking market that we can build into future education and communication initiatives.”

The scheme allows homeowners to install PFR measures worth up to £10,000 when repairing their properties after a flood, helping to reduce water damage and making cleanup quicker and safer, so families can return home in days rather than months.

Flood resilience also extends to outdoor areas, which can significantly reduce the effects of flooding. This was highlighted at the Chelsea Flower Show earlier this year, where Flood Re showcased its Flood Resilient Garden.

Graeme Trudgill, CEO of BIBA, said: “Our annual Tour of the Regions events are an integral part of our engagement with members, and building flood resilience in the UK is a key BIBA Manifesto commitment. We are really pleased that
Flood Re will join us and help keep brokers informed about Build Back Better.

“It’s fantastic that they want to take the time to meet our members face to face and show how Flood Re can help them provide better outcomes for customers in areas at risk of flooding.”
