BHSI expands in Italy with new Milan office and leadership appointments

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI), a provider of commercial property, casualty, and specialty insurance, recently announced the opening of a new office in Milan, appointing Leonardo Castrichino as Country Manager to lead its business in Italy, alongside other leadership appointments.

“Since opening our first European offices in 2016, BHSI has been growing thoughtfully and strategically across the region, always with an eye on bringing sustainable, long-term solutions to the marketplace,” added Alessandro Cerase, Head of Europe, BHSI.

“We are pleased to now expand into Italy with Leo leading our business, building a team with exceptional talent, and bringing the BHSI brand, balance sheet, and service to the marketplace.”

Leo joins BHSI with almost 30 years of experience in the European insurance industry, where he has held various leadership roles at both country and regional levels, gaining extensive expertise across numerous commercial lines and business segments.

Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region at another insurance company.

BHSI also announced the following leadership appointments in Italy: Marco Vantellino has been named Head of Executive & Professional Lines.

With 20 years of industry experience specialising in Executive & Professional Lines, he was most recently Head of Financial Lines for the Mediterranean business at another global insurer.

Thomas Tasso takes on the role of Head of Property – Energy and Construction. With nearly two decades of experience across Europe, he brings extensive expertise in underwriting property and engineered risks. He was previously the Head of Property for the Mediterranean business at another global insurer.

Nicoló Mussi has been appointed Head of Commercial and Financial Institutions for Executive and Professional Lines. With over 10 years of experience, Nicoló will focus on expanding BHSI’s Directors & Officers Liability and Financial Institutions business in Italy. Previously, he served as Senior Underwriter & Financial Institutions Practice Leader at another insurer.

Chiara Baldissara is the new Operations Manager. She was previously an Underwriting Technician at BHSI in London and joined the company in 2017. With over a decade of industry experience, she is now relocating to Milan for her new role.
