Markel, the insurance division of Markel Group Inc., has made three significant appointments as part of its strategy to expand its International Casualty portfolio and enhance its Wholesale Claims service for broker partners.
Lauren Percival has been named Executive Underwriter – General Liability. In her new position, she will collaborate with James Murray, Head of General Liability, to drive the growth of Markel’s General Liability portfolio.
She will also focus on identifying areas for profitable expansion while ensuring top-tier service and quick response times for brokers and policyholders.
With 18 years of experience in the London Market, Percival joins Markel after holding senior underwriting roles at Arch Insurance International and Chaucer Plc.
She spent 13 years at QBE Insurance (Europe) Ltd, where she advanced to Senior Underwriter in the International Casualty Division, managing a successful portfolio across regions such as South America, the Middle East, Asia, and the Caribbean.
Olivia Hogan has been appointed Senior Underwriter and will work alongside Graeme Ivory, Director of International Casualty, to grow Markel’s Environmental Liability product offering.
Ivory commented: “We’re excited to welcome Lauren and Olivia to our growing International Casualty underwriting team here in London. Their blended skillsets, industry knowledge and experience of managing various International Casualty product lines, will significantly add to the bench strength we already have in the team and support us in our ambitions to further diversify our portfolios and enhance our service offering.”
Hogan will manage a diverse portfolio and foster new and existing broker relationships, while also supporting talent development within the London-based International Casualty underwriting team.
Hogan brings 12 years of underwriting experience, most recently serving as UK Environmental Line of Business Owner at AIG. In that role, she led a team of underwriters and managed a profitable environmental insurance portfolio.
Ed Norman has been appointed International Casualty Claims Manager, responsible for leading the claims function and ensuring that brokers and insureds receive responsive, value-driven service.
Norman will oversee both complex and routine claims across key product lines, including General Liability, Environmental Liability, and Life Sciences, while also strengthening broker relationships and providing technical expertise for customised policy wordings.
Norman, with over 20 years of industry experience, joins from AXA XL, where he served as Assistant Claims Manager – London Wholesale Casualty, leading a team of claims professionals. He also worked at MSIG Holdings as a Casualty Claims Adjuster, handling global claims and settlements.
Percival will report to Murray, Hogan will report to Ivory, and Norman will report to Thomas Upton, Head of Claims, Marine and Energy. All three will be based in Markel’s London office.
Upton said: “As part of our claims value proposition, we’re continually investing in top-tier talent to make sure we deliver on our promise to provide a consistently excellent service for brokers and insureds. I’m therefore delighted that Ed will be joining as International Casualty Claims Manager.
His impressive background will be instrumental in supporting the International Casualty underwriting team with developing bespoke insurance solutions, by resolving claims matters in an efficient and timely manner and keeping them abreast of important claims trends and developments.”
