Blue Ocean Re hires Nico Kleine Punte to lead its accounting operations

Blue Ocean Reinsurance Group, the newly established managing general agent (MGA) platform, has added three key professionals to its expanding team: Nico Kleine Punte, joins the leadership group to oversee the firm’s accounting operations, Derek Shanahan joins as Senior Vice President and Account Executive, and Nancy Manyange, has been appointed as Reinsurance Accountant.

An experienced veteran across the sector, Nico brings over a decade of expertise in navigating the complexities of the Caribbean insurance and reinsurance market.

Throughout his career, his has served in senior positions at major firms such as PwC, Island Heritage, and BF&M Group.

Overall, he brings a deep understanding of financial and regulatory reporting requirements across multiple jurisdictions, including Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Bahamas, and Eastern Caribbean territories.

In his new capacity, Nico will be expected to lead the accounting function of the organisation.

“Nico’s expertise in financial reporting and his extensive industry experience will be pivotal in supporting our next phase of growth. His insights will strengthen our operations and bolster our ability to meet the needs of our clients especially as those Clients look to different accounting bases and treatment to echo their diverse and increasingly complex requirements,” commented Graham Mackay, President & CFO.

Meanwhile, Derek, who will be focusing on the firm’s re/insurance management portfolio, joins the team and leadership group with over 15 years of experience in Insurance and Risk Management.

He has previously served in senior roles at global re/insurance broking group Aon and ENI.

In his new role, Derek will focus on supporting growth and the implementation of strategic initiatives and operations, as well as managing key client relationships too.

Lastly, Nancy, an accomplished accountant with a background in financial services, actuarial and industrial markets, will support the company’s reinsurance accounting and compliance function.

It’s worth noting that her expertise in regulatory filings, financial reporting, and actuarial risk analysis will be highly crucial towards further supporting an enhanced client service model in addition to enhancing the group’s operational efficiency.
