Howden Re enhances international broking and advisory capabilities with two new hires

Howden Re, the reinsurance arm of Howden, has announced the hire of Grange Turner and Tom Finch who will be joining its Motor Reinsurance and Prospective Capital Solutions, respectively.

Sebastian Cook, Deputy CEO, Howden Re International, commented: “Tom and Grange joining Howden Re is further evidence of our continued commitment to invest in the best and most proven talent in the market.

“Adding colleagues of this calibre enables us to present an integrated value proposition to our clients. This allows us to be truly product and capital agnostic when supporting our clients in meeting their business and reinsurance objectives.”

Based in London, Turner is joining the company as Managing Director, International Casualty, and Head of International Motor Reinsurance, effective 11 November 2024.

Working across all Casualty lines, Turner brings extensive P&C reinsurance broking experience to his role which will encompass Howden Re’s global international region, focusing in particular on the UK and Nordics.

The reinsurer stated: “His specific experience in Motor Reinsurance completes Howden Re’s ability to offer client support across all P&C lines both in the region and out of the London office.

“The new offering will strengthen Howden’s existing UK P&C Motor proposition and collaborate closely with Howden Insurance, which sells via the 100+ UK high street branches, making use of Howden Driving Data, an end-to-end telematics platform.”

Prior to joining Howden Re, Turner served as a Partner at McGill & Partners in the Treaty Reinsurance team. Before that he spent over 11 years as an Executive Director at Willis Re.

He was also part of Guy Carpenter, where he spent nearly 6 years as a Managing Director.. At Willis Re and Guy Carpenter, Grange constructed reinsurance treaties for UK and international clients across motor, public and products liability, professional lines, and medical malpractice.

Finch joined Howden Re as Managing Director, Head of Prospective Solutions, International on 1 October 2024.

In his new role, also based in London, he will provide prospective structured reinsurance solutions to Howden Re clients. Finch sits within the London International Team but will work closely with Howden Re’s existing Lloyd’s and North American Capital solutions teams.

He will also work with Alex Roth, Managing Director, Head of Capital & Operational Solutions Europe, who joined Howden Re earlier this year to focus on retroactive capital and operational solutions.

Finch’s appointment completes Howden Re’s range of Capital Solutions offerings, enhancing their capacity to tailor reinsurance products in order to align precisely with the unique requirements of individual clients, the reinsurer explained.

The executive brings over 17 years of industry experience including 12 years at Swiss Re in a number of global Structured Solutions teams covering regions including Bermuda, Japan, Africa and the UK.

Finch joins Howden Re following five years at AXIS Capital, where he was most recently Group Head of Underwriting Governance.

Matthew Westerman, Head of London, Howden Re International, said: “Grange’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the Motor market will be invaluable as we expand our capabilities in this area.

“Given the mixed dynamics of the global Motor market, our clients will greatly benefit from Grange’s deep understanding of its macroeconomic drivers and, therefore, implications. Likewise, I am thrilled that, with Tom’s hire, we can offer our clients a full suite of capabilities across structured reinsurance solutions.”
