Tysers, an independent Lloyd’s broker and member of the Australian AUB Group, has announced the appointments of Babita Rai as CEO for Singapore and William Furness-Smith as Head of Marine, APAC.
As CEO of Tysers Singapore, Rai will focus on expanding key business areas and strengthening Tysers’ client relationships in the APAC region.
Rai brings over 20 years of industry experience to her role. She joined Tysers in 2023 as Managing Director to lead reinsurance operations in Singapore.
Before joining Tysers, she held various leadership positions at JB Boda, Guy Carpenter, and UIB Asia Reinsurance Brokers.
Tom Wilson, CEO of Tysers, expressed enthusiasm for Rai’s appointment, stating, “Supported by her excellent team, Babita will be instrumental in driving our strategic expansion in APAC, our broader reinsurance growth ambitions and providing clients with the superior service that is synonymous with Tysers. Her appointment represents an important and strategic investment in strengthening Tysers’ presence in the region.”
William Furness-Smith has transitioned to the Singapore office as Head of Marine, APAC, where he will collaborate with teams across Tysers’ offices in Singapore, Dubai, and Hong Kong to develop innovative, tailored solutions for emerging risks. He will also enhance Tysers’ offerings and expertise in the Asia Pacific region.
Furness-Smith joined Tysers in 2015, most recently serving as Marine Hull Director. He previously worked as a Marine Hull Broker at Marsh & McLennan and as a Dry Cargo Shipbroker at CFI Group.
Wilson noted, “I am delighted that William is joining the team in Singapore. He is an extremely talented and experienced broker with excellent client relationships and a track record for ensuring that risk programmes reflect evolving client needs. His move illustrates Tysers’ commitment to providing an expert and skilled service as we continue to grow our operations and presence in key markets.”
“It’s an extremely exciting time for Tysers and the appointments of Babita and William reflect our strategy of attracting and retaining talented people,” Wilson concluded.
