Lloyd’s global insurer and reinsurer MS Amlin has announced the appointment of Paul Lucas as Chief Actuary, effective at the end of Q1 2025.
Based in London, Lucas will report to Jessie Burrows, Chief Financial Officer, as a member of the Finance Leadership Team.
In his new role, Lucas will oversee all actuarial operations, including reserving and pricing, and will support MS Amlin’s long-term growth strategy.
Lucas joins MS Amlin from Westfield Specialty Insurance, where he served as Chief Actuary – International following Westfield’s 2023 acquisition of Argo, having been with Argo International as Chief Actuary since 2019. In this role, he focused on capital and catastrophe modelling and exposure management, while leading a team of 35 people.
Prior to that, Lucas spent 11 years at Aspen Insurance Group in various senior roles, most recently as Group Head of Risk.
Burrows expressed enthusiasm for Lucas’ appointment, stating, “I’m delighted to welcome Paul to MS Amlin. With more than twenty years in the industry, his deep actuarial expertise and nuanced understanding of today’s complex (re)insurance landscape make him a valuable addition to the team. His leadership will be pivotal as we focus on enhanced pricing precision and disciplined financial and capital management to drive continued strong and sustainable financial outcomes.”
She added, “Paul’s appointment underscores our commitment to strengthening actuarial rigour and resilience, ensuring we deliver value for our clients and partners amid shifting market conditions.”
