Markel, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc., has announced the promotion of Matthew Brooke to Senior Underwriter, War and Terrorism, effective immediately.
In his new role, Brooke will be responsible for driving the profitable expansion of the International War and Terrorism portfolio, by identifying gaps in political violence coverage and providing bespoke solutions to insureds, globally.
He will continue to underwrite new and renewal business, work closely with the War and Terrorism Wholesale Claims team to provide input on wordings and claims trends, support the professional development of junior team members, and ensure closer interaction with coverholders.
Since joining Markel over three years ago, Brooke has demonstrated great leadership and portfolio management skills. He had joined the company following more than eight years with W/R/B Underwriting.
He began his career at W/R/B Underwriting as an operations assistant and progressed to an underwriter, specializing in political risk and political violence insurance solutions.
As Senior Underwriter at Markel, Brooke will be reporting to Chloe Gordge, Head of War and Terrorism at Markel, who commented: “The war and terrorism market – by its very nature – is increasingly complex, driven by growing geopolitical events, tensions and regulatory developments, which are resulting in more advanced attacks from terror groups and lone wolves across the world.
“Matt’s impressive background in this field will help to elevate our service and product offerings, ensuring we’re able to continue providing successful risk transfer solutions for insureds, particularly in higher-risk territories, while strengthening Markel’s position as a leading terrorism insurer.”
